Tryouts for BSFH 2024 - 2025

TRYOUTS FOR THE 2024 - 2025 CLUB YEAR

Come join the BSFH family!

We believe in using Field Hockey as a vehicle for empowering young girls to be confident in their abilities. As a sport, Field Hockey has been a major positive force in our lives. We also believe in using field hockey to build character, work ethic and teach life-long lessons. 

At Blue Star, our mission is to develop great young field hockey players and great young women.

Fall Blue Star Players who did not hold their winter spot will need to attend tryouts.

These tryouts are for the Winter & Spring 2025 club season. You will have the option in your tryout registration to mark what teams you would like to be selected for:

  • Winter Indoor 2024 - 2025
  • Spring 2025

IF YOU SELECT BOTH SEASONS - You will register for the winter and spring if you are offered a spot. You will then be asked to come to FREE team placement evaluations for the spring season. 

IF YOU DO NOT SELECT BOTH SEASONS  - You will register for the season(s) you selected and then will be asked to Tryout for any season you are not registered for.

What is winter indoor?

Indoor field hockey requires a specific skill set that will help to develop your game for the regular season. Any athlete looking to compete at an elite high school level or move on to play in college should consider playing indoor field hockey.

Playing indoor will result in quicker reaction time, sharper stick skills and an overall greater understanding of the game.  Indoor is played on a quick surface with 5 field players and a goalie. This unique game forces the athlete to think faster and play faster, ultimately elevating their overall game sense.  Indoor field hockey has NO backswings or 3d skills. Lifted balls can only occur on shots. This game quickly improves your fundamentals, stickwork, & defense. 

Indoor field hockey requires different equipment then outdoor field hockey:

  • Indoor stick (lighter & thinner)
  • Indoor glove: You must wear a glove on your left hand. 
  • Indoor face masks: Not required, but used on defensive corners.

AGE CLASSIFICATION - NEW FOR 2024/25

USA Field Hockey is moving to a "Grad Year" model for Age classification starting August 1st, 2024. Your age classification will be based on your graduation year AND/OR your age as indicated below

  • U8: Players born after July 31, 2016
  • U10: Players born after July 31, 2014
  • U12: Players born after July 31, 2012
  • U14: Players born after July 31, 2010
  • U16: Players born after July 31, 2008
  • U19: Players born after July 31, 2006

Tryout Dates:

October 23rd 

COURT 1

  • 6:15 - 7:30 - 3rd - 6th graders (U10 - U12)

  • 7:30 - 9:00 - 7th & 8th graders (U14)

COURT 2

  • 7:00 - 9:00 - High School Players (U16 & U19)

 

October 25th 

COURT 1

  • 6:15 - 7:30 - 3rd - 6th graders (U10 - U12)

  • 7:30 - 9:00 - 7th & 8th graders (U14)

COURT 2

  • 7:00 - 9:00 - High School Players (U16 & U19)

 

TRYOUT FEE: $50

 

DETAILS:

Please bring ALL of your INDOOR equipment to tryouts. Stick, mouthguard, shinguards, water, sneakers or indoor shoes, and energy! 

GK - please bring your goalie equipment you usually train with. If you do not have your equipment please reach out to your high school or middle school coach. If you need help please reach out to us!  We only have GK for U10 keepers.

FALL 2024 INFO

PRACTICE LOCATIONS

  • U10/U12 Pink  - Princeton Day School 
  • U12 - U19 - Bordentown HS

PRACTICE TIMES:

  • U10 - U14 
    • Practices will be held on Sunday Mornings at Hun or Bordentown HS
  • U14 Pink, U16s & U19s
    • Practices will be held on SATURDAY afternoons/evenings in September/October.
    • Starting in NOVEMBER their practices will move to Sunday Mornings. 
    • We believe in giving our HS athletes one day of recovery during their competitive fall seasons.

Blue Star Field Hockey is a USA FH sanctioned club. USA FH membership is required to participate in any Blue Star events.
